- Barack Obama--the presumptive nominee, the guy Democrats are officially rallying around--just lost by comfortably more than two-to-one in West Virginia. John Edwards got almost a third as many votes, and he dropped out three months ago. His supporters are responding by calling West Virginians racists. Telling people "if you vote for the opponent in the primary, it's because you're a racist" does not strike me as a great way to win those people back in the general election--especially because people who voted for Hillary in, say, Ohio and Pennsylvania may figure, "they probably mean me, too."
- On the other hand, if the GOP can't hold on to a seat in Mississippi that Bush won by 25 points in 2004, it's not in great shape either.
This may be the year the Greens win the White House! Or the Wobblies! (Not the Libertarians, though. Don't be silly.)

Oh, and Bay to Breakers is on Sunday. Don't suppose anyone's interested in carpooling? My current plan is to drive up to the Millbrae BART station at Too Dang Early o'Clock and catch the train up to the starting line. Gun is at 8 AM, and BART claims that on an ordinary Sunday, it takes 40 minutes to get from Millbrae to the Embarcadero. First train is at 6 AM (leaving every 20 minutes thereafter); I'll probably aim for the 6 AM train (on the theory that not-enough-sleep is not-enough-sleep). I'll carry my cellphone with me (memo to self: need some kind of sport armband for cellphone), so if you're going to be there, give me a call or text or summat. I'm figuring I'll wander the post-race party for a bit, then make my way home for an afternoon nap, before heading back up to the city for karaoke at the Mint that evening. (Carpoolers for the karaoke are also eagerly sought.)
Anyone else got any races in the works? I'm hoping the TNT schedule will be compatible with a summer race or two (some training schedules include/encourage/require test races along the way). And I know the lovely and talented Mr.
